PC Help and Support for Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land

AppUp Update to Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land

We’ve updated the game for AppUp.  This version fixes a few issues and has some minor improvements (It is the same version you will have if you use GamersGate or IndieCity).  We do suggest updating; however best to wait until you are at the end of a level first.  To update the game you need to uninstall and reinstall the game.  Don’t worry, your saved games will be preserved and are not part of this update process.

Here is how to update:

  • Run Intel AppUp.
  • Select ‘My Apps’ from the top menu bar.
  • For ‘Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land’, drop-down the box marked ‘More Actions’ and select ‘Uninstall’.

Intel’s AppUp, My Apps Screen

  • Then press the Windows key; this is because while AppUp is full screen, you will need to give it permission to act.  This is a separate window and you won’t see it if AppUp is full screen.
  • Once this is done return to AppUp and ‘My Apps’.
  • Select the button next to  ‘Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land’ marked ‘Download’.
  • Again, press the Windows key and when the dialogue box appears, give permission to act.
  • You can now select ‘Launch’ and play the game!

IndieCity version: The tutorial works but you can’t start a new game?

When you start an actual game (not the tutorial) that’s when the game does the IndieCity validation checks via the network, so you need to make sure they are running the IndieCity client and that they have internet access.  Also check that your firewall is allowing the IndieCity application to validate, as if it is blocking it, you’ll get an error.

Missing .DLL Problem

If you run the game and get a message saying ‘The program can’t start because msvcp100.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this  problem.” Here is what to do.  It means your PC is missing a few Visual Studios files that the game uses.  Most PCs have these installed, so it is worth getting them anyway.  The package you install depends on if your Windows opperating system is 32 or 64 bit (if you are not sure, see here) – just install the right one and away you go!

32 bit Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

I played this game on my Motorola Photon and liked the play, although playing on a 4 inch screen wasn’t much fun, so I bought the pc version. Unfortunately when i try to run it, I get the ‘missing dll’ message. I DID update using your link for my system (win7, 64bit)…i still get the message. Even tried rebooting my system after the update..but still no success. Has anyone else gotten this problem as well? What can i do at this point?

  2. Piemax says:

Game installs on my PC. but I can’t make the action bar come up on a target,
tried all sorts of click lengths both left and right. what to do?

    • Tomas says:

Hi Piemax, Can you check you’ve ended the turn, so the Action Points are re-set and you have enough for an attack?

      • Alex says:

Same problem here. Bought with the “Cthulhu Bundle” but can’t make the bar come up… and I’ve already checked the AP 😦

      • Tomas says:

Hi Alex – is this on PC? If so have a look at the Missing .DLL Problem problem above and make sure that the graphics bits are up to date. If that does not work, sadly I suggest an uninstall and re-install. Thanks, Tomas

    Hi Red Wasp Design,

I bought today Call of Cthulhu : Wasted Land on PC at Indiecity (I had to buy it two times because their servers wouldn’t let me log in with my first account).
The game look greats, the training mode works perfectly, but the game crashes if I try to begin a game on Normal or Hard difficulty. I get no messages of error, it just stops. Is there any updates or patches that can be installed to rectity this problem at Indiecity? I cannot find any.

Thanks for your time and have a nice day.

  5. Alexander says:

Still not working, installed the visual studio file from the link (already had it, but did a repair) and removed and re installed wasted land via Indie-City, but getting same issue.
Have also tried running in various resolutions etc, but getting the same issue.

    • Tomas says:

Sorry to hear that. I’ve emailed you to see if we can find a solution. Tomas

      • Alexander says:

I was running it directly from the indie city app, and connected to the internet, never thought to check the firewall settings or similar though as it never occurred to me that it may be an authentication issue.

Hi there, was thinking about purchasing the game download directly from Amazon.com (and not via the Intel AppUp) to my laptop (Acer Aspire 5542-5462) and wanted to know if there might be any problems playing it with Windows 8 64-bit? Thanks for your time

  7. Enrico says:

  8. Fallingtower says:

I downloaded the game the other day from GamersGate. It opens fine, but the video has flickering, thick black lines. I tried adjusting the settings and the windows 8 compatibility feature (tried running under XP, Vista, 7 and 8) to no avail. Is there a fix for this problem?

  9. Fallingtower says:

    Hey Tomas,
I fixed it. I just refreshed my video driver…which was odd, because before hand it said it was up to date. I was having the same problem connecting to WIFI at work…a refresh of the modem driver fixed it as well. Must be a Windows 8 quirk.

any chance of you making a steam key available for those of us having purchased thru gamersgate back when? Just read in the steam forum, that you’ve patched the game with some fixes… would like to enjoy the latest incarnation of yer werk.
