Cthulhu Cup Competition Results

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land info pageSo our Cthulhu cup competition has ended.  As with the last competition, we were faced with the hard task of judging it.

Here’s a re-cap of the competition: To celebrate the game arriving on GamersGate and Android, in addition to the Intel AppUp℠ center and Apple’s iOS, we ran a competition. The prize was a unique 1-of-a-kind Cthulhu-cup created by the game’s lead artist. The cup was modelled in 3D then printed out in a Lovecraftian ceramic green. To win entrants simply had to tweet (to #whencthulhuwakes) or post on the Facebook thread a horrific, amusing, pulp fiction, wry or insanity-inducing ending to the sentence, “When Cthulhu wakes…”

A huge thanks to all who entered.  You can see the entries here on our Facebook page and on twitter via #whencthulhuwakes.  Before we announce the winner we’d like to share a few of the entries that caught our eye…

We had some great entries that played with the Cthulhu Mythos…

Christiane Bard: Cthulhu When Cthulhu wakes, we’ll finally learn how to say, “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn” properly.

Simon Valcourt: When Cthulhu wakes, A red phone rings in Randolph Carter’s basement.

We had some great entries that looked to the madness of Cthulhu games and fiction…

Moises Mata: When Cthulhu wakes close your eyes and listen carefully… the last think you´ll hear it´s the sound of the stars crying…

Jim Reader: When Cthulhu wakes, I’m surfing the R’yleh tsunami all the way from the Pacific into downtown L.A., screaming out my divine madness the whole way.

Brett Talley: When Cthulhu wakes, the Old Ones shall walk unseen no more, and the wind that gibbered Their voices will echo again as the mind of man shatters.

(PS. Brett’s book ‘That Which Should Not Be‘ is a great read of Lovecraftian fiction and we totally recommend it!)

We had lots of entries looking to the Cthulhu-comedy side of things…

Tad Kelson: When Cthulhu Wakes from his long nap and wonder about the scary dream of little meatbags overrunning his ball of water and makes a big splash to clear it all away…

David Kirkby: When Cthulhu Wakes he’ll say “oooh five more millenium please mum” roll over and go back to sleep.

John George: When Cthulhu wakes, He will look at the works of Man & say: “No improving on this.”

Jon Swabey: When Cthulhu wakes… All your Base will belong to Him.

(If you don’t get the reference of this one, see here.)

Plus we even had a wisual entry from Gregg Stockdale:

Gregg Stockdale’s Entry ‘Keep Chanting and Carry On’

However after much deliberation we picked a winner, so well done to Marcelo Oliveira for his great mixing of the time you most often use your mug (morning coffee/tea) with comedy with horror of Monday

Well done Marcelo and again thanks to all for entering!
