So we’ve launched the new DLC for Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land and we thought we’d answer a few questions you might have about the DLC/In-App purchase…

How to I get the DLC/In-App purchase levels?

Currently it is only on iOS – we hope more platforms will follow.  First you need to update the app (see here) and once done select ‘Extra Missions‘ option from the front screen, then click on the ‘Buy’ button to purchase Kaul’s Diary.  Then you can start a new game of Kaul’s Diary and you are off!

Will playing the DLC ‘Kaul’s Diary’ lose my save in ‘The Wasted Land’?

No, the game keeps the two saves separately so you can have a game of both running no problem.

How does the gameplay differ?

We wanted to keep the basic tactical gameplay, but shift it somewhat, because of the fact that now you control the evil side of the conflict.  So the gameplay is broadly the same except the only way to heal people is via magic and there is no ‘swapping’ of items between units (Kaul does not go in for that sort of thing.)  Also there is no team management (Kaul says that there is no ‘I’ in ‘Team’, but that there is an ‘I’ in ‘eviscerate’) as most of your units are disposable so it means there is a shift in how you play the game – one we hope you will enjoy.

Any tips for playing Kaul’s Diary?

Yes – make sure you use the rotate and pinch zoom functions – in the game you control Mythos creatures who are often bigger than a single human and so selecting is a little more of an issue.  This is easily resolved though by rotating the camera and zooming in where needed.  Press the ‘?’ button to bring up the controls help information.

What about translations?

Currently the text for Kaul’s Diary is only in English – we are looking into updating it, but for now it is only in one langauge.

The medical kits look different – what’s going on?

They do!  We got support from The Wellcome Trust to update the historical medical information in the game.  There is much more on that here.  If you’ve not yet seen these changes and want to, all you need to do is update the app (see here) – you don’t need to purchase the DLC to see this update.

I’ve got the game on more than one iOS device – what do I do?

You’ll need to update it on all the devices you have it on.  Once you buy it with one account you can then also click the ‘buy’ button on any device to unlock this content – but you should only be charged once, provided you are using the same iTunes account.

I’ve updated and in the main game the text is garbled?

Ooops!  Yes, if you update mid-level it can effect the text strings – but only for that level.  Once you complete, then it will reset.

What about other platforms?
