Vote Call of Cthulhu at Pocket Tactics

Update: The polls have closed now and we came third out of 27, which is pretty good.  The competition was tough and we were beaten by Lost Cities (2nd) & Battle Academy (1st) so well done to them (both excellent games!)  Also thanks to those who voted for us!!

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land is one of the many great games up for the readers award over at Pocket Tactics – if you enjoyed the game, we’d love to have your vote!  Vote Cthulhu!

For the last couple of weeks we’ve been taking nominations for your choice of Game of the Year, and now the time has come to choose. In hindsight, I wish I’d worked out some sort of playoff system so that the list wasn’t so long – but we can do that next year, right?

It’s been a great year for mobile device gaming and that is fully reflected in the great list of titles below. I’m looking forward to seeing the result.

Voting will remain open until the wee small hours of the morning this Friday.

Cthulhu Christmas Calendar Free for One Day Only!

https://redwaspdesign.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/marketing_image04.png?w=150&h=150Fans of the meme-monster Cthulhu and other creations of cult horror novelist H.P. Lovecraft can get a little extra help in counting down to Christmas, thanks to a new mobile advent calendar app. Titled ‘Cthulhu Christmas Calendar‘, it features 25 original pieces of artwork – one for each day in December until Christmas Day. Each image presents a fun mashup of festive icons like Santa into the Cyclopean world of the great Cthulhu, the malevolent Mi-Go and the dark god Nyarlathotep. Normally priced at $0.99/£0.69/€0.79, the app will be free for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on the 1st December only, to celebrate our collective descent into Yuletide madness.

The creators of the Cthulhu Christmas Calendar, Red Wasp Design, are also the developers of the hit iOS title Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land, an indie turn-based strategy RPG also inspired by the classic horror fiction of H.P. Lovecraft. The game was developed in co-operation with Chaosium, the publishers of much loved paper role playing game, Call of Cthulhu. The game features nine 3D levels set in the trenches of World War One. In ‘The Wasted Land’ the player uses their team of investigators to uncover a deadly conspiracy underlying the Great War. Barbed wire, mustard gas and machines guns will prove to be the least deadly encounter that the investigators will meet as they venture out onto the battlefield to try and solve the mystery of the Wasted Land.

There is more information on the Cthulhu Christmas Calendar page and you can chat about it with fellow cultists on its own Facebook page.

“That is not baked which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even pudding may die.”

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land Review, “A Brilliant Game”

We had a review go up on RTS Guru – and they liked the game! (our highlight):

Call of Cthulu: The Wasted Land is a brilliant game, hitting every hallmark of great RTS and RPG games. There are true strategy and deep tactics in this game. As mentioned, each character has skills that can be improved between levels. Each time he uses those skills and succeeds, there is also a chance for improvement. A character has Action Points per turn that can also be increased through application of XP. Beyond that, he has weapons and equipment that can be swapped out. Action Points are used for movement as well as weapons, and there are two stances a gunman can use. A hip shot or for more accuracy, bringing the weapon up and aiming, which uses more Action Points, resulting in less action points for movement. Further, leaving a few action points on your character can result in an automatic “riposte” if shot at during the enemy’s turn.
